Third Class – 中山大学 (Sun Yat-sen University, SYSU)

Sun Yat-sen University is one of the most famous universities in Guangdong.  It is located in Guangzhou city, building just right beside the Pearl River.  The university is name after the president of Republic of China also call Beiyang Government – Sun Zhong Shan or known as Sun Yat-sen.

Sun Yat-sen University was first established on 1924.  On 1924, Sun Yat-sen ordered the head ministry of education by that time as the president of the university and named the Sun Yat-sen University.  After almost 100 years of development, Sun Yat-sen University had expended to have 4 campuses with over 6.17 km² of campus size in total.  Three of them locates in Guangzhou and one of them locates in Zhuhai city.  With around 13,000 professors, almost 90,000 of undergraduates, and more than 50,000 of graduates studying either master or PHD.  In 2012, Financial Times ranked Sun Yat-sen University’s Master in Management Program #44 worldwide and EMBA (Executive Master of Business Administration) #11 worldwide.  Also, it is one of the universities included in 985 and 211 project.

Sun Yat-sen University of most famous of its medical school, which is, call Sun Yat-sen College of Medical Science.  It is one of the most well known medical college around the world on researches on Chinese medicine.  It was most famous by developing the vaccine for SARS.  Which was one of the major disease outbreak on 2002 and killed almost 800 people around the world.

This is the one of the building in Lingnan University which is the Sun Yat-sen University’s past.  This is one of the original building while established by a group of American missionaries in 1888.  This building is still operating as a museum in the university.

This building is now an anthropology building.  It was used to be Martin Hall originally but now the university as The Anthropology Building renamed them, yet people can still see AD1905 in some of the base stones outside of the building.
